God's Kitchen serves the poor and those on limited incomes in the Pottstown area every Monday evening. We provide a delicious, nutritious hot dinner, a scripture reading and short message from one of a number of local area pastors and Christian brothers, and provide a clothing give away every week. This is all possible because of our dedicated volunteers, who not only come serve but also shop and cook for this mission. A bus goes out through downtown Pottstown at 5:00 p.m. every Monday and brings people to the church building who otherwise would not be able to get there. Others drive themselves. We begin the evening at 5:30 p.m. with our short time of prayer and devotional and then serve dinner immediately after. Throughout the evening our clothing give away continues.
This ecumenical mission invites anyone who wants to serve as Jesus taught us to do. James tells us that "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." This is what we who serve hope to do.
We often have youth groups, sports groups, and scouting groups contact us to volunteer, and several area churches, such as Hope Community Church (Gilbertsville) and Keystone Church (Skippack) have small groups and others who regularly volunteer.
